Objectives:
After going through this course at IIISR, students should be able to:
- understand the fundamental concepts in Islam;
- understand the basic terminologies of Quran and thereby its message;
- learn 40 ahaadith and inculcate the wisdom therein;
- comprehend the practical significance of seerah of the prophets especially the seerah of Prophet Muhammadﷺ ;
- discern the important milestones in Islamic history;
- understand and engage in the modern debates and misconceptions about Islam (especially regarding women);
- read some of the key texts produced by Islamic thinkers in 20th century; and
- learn and imbibe from the women role models in Islam.
Duration: One Year
Eligibility:
Those students can apply for this course who
- have completed 10th
- can read and write in Urdu.
Course Highlights:
- Introduction: How to study Islam, Quran, Hadith, Fiqh.
- Core beliefs: Tauheed, Risalat, Akhirat.
- Concept of Jahilliya, Islamic system of life and Iqamat e Deen
- Some important Quranic terminologies (Iman, Deen, Taqwa, Ihsan, Sabr, Shukr, Tawakkul etc)
- Meaning and understanding of 40 selected Ahadith
- Complete meaning and understanding of Salat & other important Azkaar
- Islamic history (Prophets in Quran; The period of Prophet Muhammadﷺ and rightly guided caliphs; Islamic movements throughout history)
- Misconceptions about Islam: Jihad, Kufr, Jizya, Purdah, Marriage and Family , Polygamy, Divorce, Property rights, Gender equality, Birth control, Freedom and Feminism
- In-Depth study of the Islamic literature in the context of the challenges of the modernity:
- Selected writings of Syed Maududi, Shibli Nomani, Syed Qutub, Abul Kalam Azad, and Sadruddin Islahi.
- Selected poems of Altaf Husain Hali, Akbar Ilahabadi and Allama Iqbal.
- Women role models: Selected Companions, Women in Quran, Negative examples mentioned in Quran
- Monthly book reviews and assignments to be submitted online
