Research Scholars’ Monthly Seminar was held on 30th Nov in Afzal Hussain Auditorium. The seminar was presided over by Khan Yasir (Director In-Charge, IIISR). Seminar started with Noman Khan’s recitation of the Holy Quran. He is student of Diploma in Islamic Discourse. After recitation, three papers were presented.
Md Ghalib Falahi presented on the theme “Alfred Mahan’s Theory of Sea Power: Introduction and Analysis”. Starting with the brief introduction of Mahan, the speaker said that Mahan was a United States naval officer and historian, whom John Keegan called ‘the most important American strategist of the 19th century’ . His book ‘The Influence of Sea Power upon History, 1660-1783(1890)’ won immediate recognition and made him perhaps the most influential American author of 19th century”. He discussed the importance of sea power in the context of USA and Britain becoming big powers.
Second presentation was delivered by Md Sajid Ansari on the topic of ‘Akbar Allahabadi: In the context of 20th century’. The speaker introduced Akbar Allahabadi and the context of British India in which he was born and how it impacted his thoughts. On the topic of Akbar and British, he said that although Akbar was a Govt servant, he still opposed the Britishers and used his poetry as a weapon against British Imperialism. He also explained the stance of Akbar on the issues of Aligarh Movement, Hindu-Muslim unity and Women.
Third and final participant was Md Moiz ul Haq who spoke on the topic ” The political thought of Abu Nasar Al Farabi”. He began his talk with the early life, education and thought of Al Farabi. He then threw light on few of the books of Al Farabi like Al Madinah al-fadilah, Siyasat-ul-Mudoon and Tahseel us Sa’adah. In the light of the book, Al Madinah al-fadilah, he discussed the 12 traits of the Ameer (Ruler) of Al-Farabi’s Madina al-fadilah (The Virtuous City).
These 3 presentations were followed by a question- answer session in which almost 9-10 questions were posed to the speakers by the students of IIISR.
The program concluded with the presidential speech of Khan Yasir (Director In-Charge). He lauded the hard work of research scholars and briefly presented his remarks on the three presentations. He also provided additional information and insights on the themes discussed.
